Garage door repairs
Finding out why a door sticks, jams, grinds or sits crooked, then repairing the tracks, rollers, hinges, panels, springs or opener.
Replacing broken or worn springs, frayed lift cables and drums, then rebalancing the door so it lifts safely.
Springs do most of the work of lifting a garage door. They store energy as the door closes and release it as the door opens, so a person or a small motor can move a heavy door. On sectional and tilt doors, lift cables connect the bottom of the door to the spring system. When a spring breaks or a cable frays, the door can become far too heavy to lift, sit crooked or fall.
B&D says a broken spring can cause "an imbalanced door or complete operational failure", and that "DIY spring repair is highly discouraged due to the complexity and potential danger involved" (B&D). It also warns that a snapped cable can make the door "fall unpredictably" (same source).
The technician should identify the spring type and size, replace it with springs matched to the weight of the door, and then test the balance by hand with the motor released. On doors with a pair of springs, they may suggest replacing both at once so the door stays balanced; ask them to explain why. A good repair also includes a check of the cables, drums, bearings and opener settings, because a broken spring often puts strain on the rest of the system.
Published estimates put a single spring replacement at around $180 to $350 and a pair at $280 to $550, with lift cable replacement at $110 to $400 per job (What's The Damage?, Brisbane, October 2026). An older Airtasker guide put typical spring repairs at $110 to $200 and cable repairs from $150 (Airtasker, updated 6/11/2023). These are national or Brisbane estimates, not Toowoomba quotes. When you are ready, request a spring or cable repair quote and an independent Toowoomba technician will contact you.
