A careful installer will measure the opening, headroom, side room and depth of the garage before quoting, and check the frame or jambs the door fixes to. Tell them if there is a ceiling fan, storage, a window or a light where the tracks or drum would go. Non-standard openings may need a made-to-measure door, which can change the price. B&D notes that prices vary with size, material, finish and design (B&D price guide).
The Australian standard for wind-rated garage doors is AS/NZS 4505 (Standards Australia). A Queensland Government factsheet explains that its test "simulates the effects of significant wind loads during a severe weather event", and that before current standards many garage doors could not withstand the wind pressures of a severe storm (Queensland Government). House wind classes run from N1 to N6 in non-cyclonic regions and C1 to C4 in cyclonic regions, and Steel-Line suggests checking with your local council for your home's wind load requirements (Steel-Line).

For building work valued over $3,300, Queensland requires a QBCC licence (QBCC). A new double sectional door with a motor can go over that: published estimates run from $2,500 to $7,500 installed (What's The Damage?). If your quote is over $3,300, ask for the licence number, check it on the free QBCC licence search at my.qbcc.qld.gov.au, and expect a written contract. On regulated contracts, deposits are capped at 10% for work over $3,300 to $19,999 (QBCC key information guide). If the opener needs a new power point, that part must be done by a licensed electrician (Electrical Safety Office).
For full price ranges see the garage door price guide. When you are ready, request a new door quote and an independent Toowoomba technician will contact you.
